Part 3 Of Beachcombing At Ganavan Beach, Oban, Argyll

Welcome to Part 3 of my beachcombing visit to Ganavan Beach, near Oban In Argyll and Bute.

  • The walking terrain here is of a hiking nature, so please wear appropriate footwear. There’s an alternative walking route, this leads around to Dunstaffnage Castle. There is a pathway tarmac pavement that leads you around this way. Also suitable for bikes/bicycles.

  • The same facilities apply here as stated in the blog for part 1. A bus route does go past this beach as well which is really useful.

  • There is a beautiful cove here as shown in the video below. There is lots of seaglass, seashells and seaweed/kelp to be found in this particular spot.

  • There is also a fantastic seawreck to be spotted here.

Anyway…In this video, I show you around a different part of this wonderful beach of treasures. I found Seaglass and shells here which was a delight.

I ventured further across the beach, which was a more rocky terrain underfoot as you will see. Make sure you have sturdy footwear on, to navigate the rocks a lot easier.

Next Stop….Formby Beach!

formby beach.jpg

So…after enjoying Crosby beach and a lunch break, we headed down to Formby Beach. We got parked up fairly easily, however, this is a National Trust site, so parking can cost £7.50 if you’re not a member. There is a bit of a steep climb up a sandy bank, so be careful! Once we got to the beach we found a very lovely sandy beach, quite like Crosby, but again, not a seaglass beach. This was also doggy friendly and it was so nice to see families out again, enjoying themselves in the spring sun.

The approach the the beach has lots of lovely trees and there are other walks nearby. We loved the fact that there’s the marriage of beach and woodland nearby and i’d recommend this for families. There was also a refreshments van providing snacks and hot drinks. People were very friendly and there was a very nice atmosphere to Crosby Beach and Formby Beach.

I made a short video for you which you can watch by clicking on the image below!!

Visit To Crosby Beach - Another Place

crosby beach.jpg

Crosby Beach near Liverpool has been highly recommended to me by a trusty friend and what we found was inspiring. Although Crosby Beach is no Seaglass beach - we found that Sir Anthony Gormley’s work - Another Place, greeted us on a sunny early morning. 100 sculptures all based on the body of the artist, are set in various places across the beach and give a very peaceful feeling. All sculptures are facing the sea, looking as if they are pondering about what may come from the sea.

Crosby beach is doggy friendly, it also has the backdrop of the nearby docks and you can clearly see the cranes and working sites therein. The beach itself is all sand and is kept very clean. I made a short video which you can see below and you can also see some of the photos I took.

Parking was convenient, although I recommend you get there as early as you can. When we left, the car park was full - although it was sunday, and I would have thought that weekends are busy here.

The Gift Of Durham Heritage Coast

heritage2.jpg

Oh my days!!

On a day out beach combing at Seaham beach, I received a ‘heads up’ about a hidden gem. I couldn’t resist…We were faced with a steep drop with the lure of a hiden cove which felt like it was being revealed for my eyes only. I slipped, tripped and whipped down a muddy hill, leaving a floundering boyfriend in his personal puddle of mud.

What I found will never leave my memory…

Seaglass from the angels, spirits of pirates, and energetic caves met me and embraced me to ensure more visits will always happen. I’ve put some videos under this text with much loved photos to document the experiences. Please, please, please find it and enjoy it as I did. It will mean something different to everyone. But one thing will remain…

This is a very very special place and you have to go inside the cave, just keep an eye on tide times!!

And then….we went back for another fabilosa day!! Check out the video below and the pics.
